French Arm Kazakhstan

In a blatant example of arms proliferation, the French company Sagem has signed a contract with the Kazakhstan government to produce tactical drones in Kazakhstan. News reports say that the drones will only be available to ‘public, government affiliated companies’ for use in defence, homeland security, emergency services, border patrols, and by the national gas company.

Of course, giving drone technology to the repressive government of Kazakhstan only invites the prediction that the Kazakh government will use the drones as instruments of repression, and to attack its domestic and international enemies. When Israel recently provided drones and other weaponry to Georgia, the Georgians promptly used these weapons in activities that prompted a small war with Russia.
